Portraits of Ramsgate

Portraits of Ramsgate will involve three photographic workshops with 16 local teenagers and some of the youths we worked with on Projection SEAS, will help lead the project. Participants will work with a professional photographer to produce portraits of people and places in the town.

They will then select some of their images together with stories of Ramsgate we collected around town and incorporate both into 10 decorative panels to mask some unsightly hoardings around the large, derelict Pleasurama site on Ramsgate’s seafront. There will also be a pre-launch exhibition at a local gallery.

We have already done 15 panels for this site and they are a big success with the community. Town councillors suggested we extend them and the youths who created the original panels were keen too.

Giving young people an opportunity to show the town what they can do improves their sense of self-worth and makes them feel valued. This project is made by possible by an Awards for All grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
